Caregiver Support Group - The Ottawa Hospital

Hospice Care Ottawa

The Family Support Program offers counseling to caregivers who look after someone with a life-threatening illness if their loved one receives services from Hospice Care Ottawa. www.hospicecareottawa.ca/i-am-a-caregiver.html


Caregivers- The Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation

This facilitated 6-week course will provide caregivers with an opportunity to take an active role in learning how best to take control of their own health during the stressful experience of caring for a loved one who has cancer.  www.ottawacancer.ca.  Call: 613-247-3527.

Tips for Caregivers

•Prepare and write down questions for the doctor before you go to the appointment


•Make sure you understand what roles the family doctor and the cancer doctor play in the patient’s medical care


•Find out what information the caregiver is expected to share with the medical team


•Talk to a social worker for support and counselling as well as referrals to community resources


•Ask questions if you do not understand something
